Teen charged with assault

Chatham-Kent police report a teen had to be arrested Monday night to answer to several charges.

At 8:49 p.m., police responded to an address on Angler Line in Dover Township.

Police learned the youth began threatening to cause harm and became assaultive towards others during an argument.

A 16-year-old Chatham youth was charged with two counts of assault and four counts of uttering threats.

Assault charges

A Chatham man is facing assault charges following a domestic dispute Monday night.

At 10:05 p.m., police responded to Thames Street in Chatham for a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, police learned the man was angry when he arrived home. He began throwing items and slamming doors when asked why he felt that way. The situation escalated when the man struck the victim in the face.

A 31-year-old Chatham man was located on Simcoe Lane and arrested. He was charged with assault.

Traffic stop leads to impaired, assault charges

Falling asleep at an intersection with the engine running and the car in gear has landed a local man in hot water.

Chatham-Kent police report officers were alerted to a car stopped at a traffic light for approximately 30 minutes at the intersection of Wellington Street West and Fifth Street in Chatham around 4 a.m.

Police arrived and found the man asleep behind the wheel with his foot on the brake and the vehicle in drive.

The man was arrested for impaired driving and transported to police headquarters for further tests. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Officers also learned the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for a January 2023 assault investigation.

Furthermore, upon a search incident to arrest, the man was found possessing suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine, police say.

A 53-year-old Chatham Township man was charged with assault and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Skipped court date

In June 2022, police arrested a man in relation to a break-and-enter that occurred on Murray Street in Wallaceburg.

The man was released with conditions and a court date.

When the man failed to attend the scheduled court date, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Monday evening, just before 8 p.m., police say the man was located on Albert Street and arrested.

A 33-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with failing to attend court.
