Crash leads to impaired charges
A Chatham Township man faces impaired charges following a single vehicle accident Thursday afternoon on Jacob Road.
Chatham-Kent police were notified of the crash on Jacob Road in Dover Township shortly after 1 p.m.
The vehicle travelled on Jacob Road when the driver lost control and left the roadway. The vehicle struck a hydro pole before coming to rest in a ditch.
Through investigation, the officer believed the man was driving his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, and he was arrested. The man was transported to police headquarters for further breath tests.
A 27-year-old Chatham Township man is charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.
Theft charges
A Chatham man faces charges after police arrested a shoplifting suspect Thursday night.
Officers were called to a St. Clair Street business about 7:20 p.m.
Once on scene, police learned the man removed items from the store and left without making attempts to pay for the items. Store security detained the man and retrieved the items.
Police also learned the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court.
A 52-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft and possession of the stolen property. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
Bail violations
A traffic stop in Wallaceburg Thursday night led to additional charges.
An officer pulled a vehicle over on McNaughton Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday night.
Through investigation, police learned the man was wanted on a warrant held by Lambton Ontario Provincial Police and was arrested. It was also learned the court had released the man with conditions, including not possessing any unlawful drug or substance without a valid prescription.
Upon arrest, police found the man possessing a prescription of hydromorphone pills not in his name.
A 42-year-old Walpole Island man was charged with failing to comply with a release order. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
