Police briefs: Impaired driving and domestic assault charges

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 191 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Eight people were arrested.

Man Charged with Impaired Driving

At approximately 4 a.m. Saturday morning, Chatham-Kent police responded to the report of a possible impaired driver in the area of Bear Line, Chatham. Officers attended the area and located the vehicle along with a helpful citizen.

Through investigation, police found the man to be driving while under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested.

The 25-year-old was released pending a future court date of Aug. 14.

Woman Charged with Domestic Related Offence

Friday night, police were called as a result of a domestic altercation taking place on Lorne Avenue. Through investigation, police learned that the woman assaulted her boyfriend by striking him in the face.

The 28 year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with assault. She was released pending a future court date.

Man Charged with Breaching Condition 

At 1 a.m., police were on general patrol in the area of Park Lane, Chatham. As a result of a traffic stop the driver was found in violation of his recognizance curfew. In March, he had been released from court to obey a daily curfew of 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

The 30-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged pending a future court date.

Man Arrested for Disturbance 

Friday night, while conducting patrol on King Street, auxiliary members observed a male causing a disturbance near the mall. Patrol officers attended the area and spoke with the man. As a result of his continued disturbing behavior, a 47-year-old Chatham man was arrested for Breaching the Peace.
