Chatham-Kent police have laid charges against the person they believe is responsible for a rash of break-ins along Erie Shore Drive in late April.

Police got the call that seven residences and/or garages were entered along the South Kent road.

Approximately $10,000 worth of items was stolen with a combined total damage of about $1,000 done.

The first crack in the case came April 28 when an officer on general patrol observed a stolen truck in Chatham.

Following a short pursuit and foot chase, the driver was arrested and charged with unrelated offences.

At that time, police learned that stolen property from Erie Shore Drive was being stored at a residence in Chatham. Officers attended the home and several stolen items were recovered. The majority of these items have since been returned to their rightful owners.

Police say officers have completed their investigation.

Matthew Buller, 34, of Chatham, is charged with seven counts of break and enter, along with one count of being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.  He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

“We would like to thank the citizens of Erie Shore Drive for their patience and co-operation during this lengthy and complex investigation,” Chief Gary Conn said in a media release. “This investigation is a great example of community members and police working together to hold the person responsible accountable for their actions.”
