Impaired charge

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. last night, police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Bloomfield Road.

Through investigation, the officer suspected the woman was driving while under the influence of alcohol.

A roadside test was administered and the woman failed. The woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters for further breath tests.

A 25-year-old Chatham woman is charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

Domestic assault and more

Around 3:30 a.m. this morning, the emergency communications centre received a 911 hang-up call. Dispatchers were able to determine that the call came from an apartment in Chatham.

Officers attended the apartment and learned that the woman had just been assaulted by her common-law with a coat hanger and broomstick.

A 32-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault and two counts of assault with a weapon

Emergency communications centre manager Sheri Somerville explained, “We answer 911 calls made from across our municipality on a daily basis. This is one example of someone trying to call for help but wasn’t able to stay on the line. When our emergency communication operators receive notice of any call that enters the 911 network in our area and no one answers, they call back to check on the person who made the call. In this case, there was no answer. The operator became concerned when they weren’t able to speak with someone directly. This prompted a police response to check on the caller’s well-being. In this case, someone was located in need of assistance. We would like to remind everyone that even if you can’t talk or if you dial and the line is disconnected; we will do what we can to try to find you.”

Executed warrants

Yesterday morning, police located a man hiding in a residence in Chatham who was wanted for uttering threats and failing to comply with his release conditions. A 37-year-old Chatham man was arrested.

Last night, an officer on general patrol arrested a woman in Chatham who was wanted in connection with a couple shoplifting incidents and three counts of failing to attend court.

A 35-year-old Chatham woman has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
