High-speed pursuit
Yesterday morning, shortly after 8 a.m., a Chatham-Kent police officer spotted a yellow cube van travelling at a high rate of speed through a red light at the intersection of King Street and Fifth Street in Chatham.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, however, the man failed to pull over.
Police say the pursuit was terminated for public safety reasons as the man continued driving in a dangerous manner.
Police received information from citizens that the van was speeding through residential areas. Officers located the van again and attempted to stop it as the man drove down an alley way and through a parking lot.
The man made intentional contact with a police cruiser, police say, causing damage to the passenger side doors. He then exited the van and fled on foot.
Following a short foot chase, the man, who continued to resist arrest, was taken into custody.
Through investigation, police learned that van was stolen from LaSalle and that the man was a prohibited from driving.
A 29-year-old Euphemia Township man is been charged with flight from police, three counts of dangerous driving, resisting arrest, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and three counts of driving while disqualified.
Drugs in my pocket
Yesterday afternoon, an officer on general patrol initiated a traffic stop in Chatham.
Through investigation, police learned that the man was suspended from driving.
The man was arrested for this offence and upon being searched incident to arrest, police say he was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine.
Jesse Ford, 32, of Chatham, was charged with driving while under suspension and drug possession.
Assault
Last night, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Ridgetown.
Through investigation, police learned that the man assaulted his fiancé during a verbal argument.
A 27-year-old Ridgetown man is charged with assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Domestic dispute leads to charges
Last night, a woman contacted police for assistance.
Through investigation, the woman disclosed that she had been the victim of domestic abuse.
A 33-year-old Chatham man is charged with mischief under $5,000, forcible confinement, uttering threats and two counts of assault.
He was released pending a future court date of June 23.
Stolen vehicle recovered
As previously released, sometime late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning, someone stole a 2006 purple Chevrolet HHR from a residence on George Street in Ridgetown.
Yesterday afternoon, police located the vehicle on Talbot Street West in Blenheim.

Helmets stolen
Sometime last week, between Tuesday and Sunday, someone forced their way into a trailer at Wolf Creek BMX on Creek Road in Chatham and stole 10 red and black racing helmets.
Total value of the theft has been estimated at $1,400.
