Observant family members are credited with helping police catch a pair of B&E suspects yesterday.
Chatham-Kent police say a couple saw a strange vehicle in the driveway of a family member’s home on Eighth Line early yesterday afternoon. They took down the license plate as the vehicle fled the scene, and called police.
Officers investigated and learned the two people had forced their way into the home and stole various designer purses, wallets, watches and a cell phone.
Shortly before 3 p.m., the suspects showed up at a home on Vanedie Road and asked the homeowner if they could use the phone. Police say he refused them entry and called police.
Officers subsequently found the suspects’ vehicle in a ditch at the intersection of Glenwood Line and Vanedie Road. Inside were the stolen items from the Eighth Line break-in, as well as a rifle in the trunk.
Officers tracked down the suspects, who had fled on foot, on Goodreau Line.
A 34-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman, both of Windsor, are charged with break and enter and possession of stolen goods. The man also faces charges of possession of a firearm while prohibited and driving while prohibited.
