Failing to comply leads to arrest, drug charges

A Chatham man faces several charges, including drug possession, after being caught for failing to comply with conditions.

In March, the man was released from custody on a three year probation order with conditions.  One of his release conditions was to abide by a curfew and be inside his residence between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily.

Early this morning just after 1:00 a.m. an officer on general patrol in Chatham observed the man riding a bicycle on the sidewalk along Adelaide Street.  A traffic stop was initiated and the man provided a false name to police.

Through investigation, the man’s real identity was learned.  The 30-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with obstruct police and failing to comply.  During a search incident to arrest, drugs were located on him.  He was arrested and additionally charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (Hydromorphone)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cocaine)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (Suboxone)

The man was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he has been held for a bail hearing.
