Ontario Provincial Police communication centres are being inundated with so many calls about Canada Revenue Agency telephone scammers that they’re interfering with normal police operations.
Last month police warned the public about the scams in which calls are made demanding money from taxpayers, however, some centres are now getting upwards of 100 calls daily.
Police are telling residents to direct calls about the scam to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or to their website at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca.
This website will provide an online means of reporting and offers tips to prevent this or other fraud.
Members of the public can also access http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/nwsrm/lrts/2015/l150610-eng.html for more information on avoiding fraud.
