A London man is up on 10 charges in the wake of a weekend home invasion in Chatham.
Police were called about 9 p.m. Saturday to an address on Taylor Avenue.
Two suspects gained entry to the residence and demanded what police say was “property” from the occupant before fleeing the scene.
However, things didn’t end there. Police say a witness saw one of the suspects dump controlled substances while trying to leave the area. The witness restrained the suspect until police arrived.
During the fracas between the two, police say the suspect produced a handgun. It went off during the struggle, but no one was injured.
Police say the witness gained control of the gun.
A 25-year-old London man is charged with robbery with a firearm; disguise with intent; possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking; assault with a weapon; discharging a firearm in a reckless manor; unauthorized possession of a firearm; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; careless carrying of a firearm; and obstructing a peace officer.
Police also raided a residence connected to this investigation, seizing quantities of cocaine and meth, prescription medications, as well as drug trafficking paraphernalia.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police continue to review surveillance footage and other evidence in an effort to identify the additional suspect believed to be involved in the home invasion. Further charges are anticipated, police say.
