Five senior centres in Chatham-Kent are benefitting from an infusion of funds through Ontario’s Seniors Active Living Centres (SALC) Program.
The SALC funds, announced by Chatham-Kent–Leamington MPP Trevor Jones, will go to the Active Lifestyle Centre in Chatham, the Blenheim & Community Senior Citizens Group, Morpeth Heritage 60+ Club, Ridgetown and Area Adult Activity Centre, and the Tilbury and District Seniors Adult Centre Association.
The Ridgetown centre topped the list with $57,602. Next up was Blenheim at $56,839, followed by the ALC in Chatham with $56,770, Morpeth at $55,528, and Tilbury with $55,000.
“Seniors Active Living Centres play an important role in helping older adults stay active, engaged, and connected within their communities,” said Jones said in a media release. “This investment will ensure that more seniors in Chatham-Kent–Leamington have access to programs and services that support healthy, independent living while fostering meaningful social connections close to home. Our government remains committed to supporting seniors and enhancing quality of life in communities across Ontario.”
Ontario is investing $23 million this year to support 416 Seniors Active Living Centre programs across the province, including 97 new centres.
This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the first six Elderly Persons’ Centres, established under the Elderly Persons’ Centres Act, 1966.
