Checks by the Chatham Kent Police Marine Unit during the Civic Holiday weekend showed most boaters in compliance with provincial regulations.
Over 75 boats were stopped and checked in the area of Mitchell’s Bay, Chenal Ecarte, Sydenham River and Thames River.
Several warnings were issued for speeding and failing to produce vessel registration in Chenal Ecarte. One boater was issued a ticket for operating a vessel with an open container of alcohol and seven cans of beer were seized.
Throughout the whole weekend, no one was charged with impaired operation of a vessel. The Marine Unit was pleased with the number of boaters found to be in compliance with boating regulations.
