King St. E. fire details released

Chatham-Kent police finally released some details on what occurred over the weekend at the end of King Street East where a woman died.

According to a media release, the police service, the fire service and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office are still investigating the fire.

The deceased was identified as a 66-year-old Chatham woman. Police are withholding the woman’s name, at the request of her family.

“As a result of the evidence obtained through the investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office, the fire is believed to have originated within the temporary structure where the individual was located, with no indication of arson,” the police media release said.

What’s more, police say information gathered through the investigation, including video surveillance from the area, does not reveal any foul play.

Police say no further information is available at this time.
