It’s been more than 27 years, but the OPP has yet to close the books on its investigation into the discovery of skeletal remains in Mitchell’s Bay on March 23, 1987.

To this day, the victim, whose body was found at Lot 8, Concession 12 in Dover Township, has not been identified.

An autopsy determined the cause of death was drowning. A completed craniofacial approximation could help identify the person, police say.

The investigation indicates the remains are that of a black man between the ages of 23 and 27, with a slight build. Police say he would have been between 5-feet and 5-foot-7. Clothing found on the body included a shirt, blue jeans, size eight Winner blue/grey running shoes with Velcro fasteners, and sports socks with red and white stripes.

Anyone with information that may lead to the identification of these remains is asked to contact the director of criminal investigation services with the OPP, at 1-888-310-1122, their nearest police service, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

“The OPP never closes its files on unidentified victims,” Det. Insp. Hillman, the Criminal Investigation Branch case manager, said.  “Our investigative team is confident that someone holds a key piece of information that will help us solve this case.”
