New pediatrician at CKHA

Dr. Jashan Uppal

A new pediatrician has joined the Women and Children’s department at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

As a physician who has trained in India and completed her residency in Michigan,

brings plenty of experience to the role.

After completing her high school and undergraduate studies in Toronto, Uppal relocated to India to complete both a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Kasturba Medical College in 2021.

She went to the U.S., completing her pediatrics residency at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit from 2023 to 2026.

Returning to Canada has always been a primary goal for Uppal.

“I’m incredibly excited to join CKHA because it gives me the opportunity to return to Canada and serve the Chatham-Kent community while practicing the kind of pediatrics I value most – compassionate, family-centred care,” Uppal said in a media release. “My training at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan has given me broad experience caring for children with a wide range of medical needs, from common childhood concerns to more complex conditions, and I look forward to bringing that experience to my practice at CKHA. What I value most about pediatrics is the opportunity to build meaningful, long-term relationships with children and their families, and I hope to provide evidence-based care while supporting my patients through every stage of their growth and development.”

CKHA chief of staff Dr. Zeke Milkovic said the hospital is thrilled to welcome Uppal to the team.

“Her expertise, dedication to patient-centered care, and commitment to clinical excellence will be a tremendous asset to our hospital and the Chatham-Kent community,” Milkovic said. “We look forward to the contributions she will make as we continue to strengthen the care we provide for our patients.”

The addition of Uppal means C-K’s pediatric team is now at full strength with six experienced specialists.
