ELECTION ’26: Zac Nicholson, Ward 5

Why are you running?

Ward 5 has been overlooked for too long. While Ward 5 residents, farmers and families pay their taxes, investments in infrastructure, housing, and economic growth bypass our community.

As a strong advocate who understands both the frontlines and the boardroom, I will demand Ward 5’s fair share of municipal funding, ask tough budget questions, and fight for families building their futures here.

What are the two biggest issues for the next term of council?

Chatham-Kent taxpayers cannot continue footing the bill for Queen’s Park’s shortfalls. From infrastructure gaps to homelessness, we must aggressively press the provincial government to deliver the funding our municipality urgently needs.

Another big issue facing council is taxes. Council must keep property tax increases as low as possible without draining municipal reserves. True fiscal responsibility goes beyond cutting costs – it means fixing existing assets, spending strategically, and ensuring tax dollars yield real value for residents.

What do you hope to achieve if elected?

I aim to bring disciplined fiscal responsibility, fair municipal investment for Ward 5 and serve as an unwavering advocate for our residents.

What skills and experience do you bring?

As a licensed paralegal running my own practice for seven years, I navigate complex legal matters daily to solve practical problems and advocate for everyday people.
My service background strengthens this professional foundation. Having served as a Canadian Armed Forces infantry soldier, a volunteer firefighter in Wallaceburg and St. Clair Township (including high-angle rescue), and a board member for the Wallaceburg Museum, I bring proven leadership, discipline, teamwork under pressure, and a deep commitment to service before self.

  1. Are you a fan of Donald Trump? (Yes or no) Did not provide yes/no answer.
