In a recent beer label photo contest, Pete and George turned out to be the top dogs.
That’s because their picture was chosen by voters as the favourite image to grace the label in a summertime fundraiser to help animals in need.
A collaboration between Red Barn Brewing Co. and Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR), the idea was launched in June. Local dog owners were invited to share photos and stories of their four-legged family members in the competition to appear on the label. A special event for dogs and their owners to mix and mingle and reveal the winner was held at Red Barn.
Organizers had originally set a $20,000 goal, but the number was exceeded by $11,000, raising $31,231 for PAWR. A total of 136 dogs participated.
According to a PAWR media release, the Top Dog Beer Label Photo Contest proved to be so popular it will become an annual event. Beyond the money raised, the contest brought attention to the work of the shelter, gave people a chance to share stories of their dogs’ journey, while supporting a business and a great local cause.
