Scare Hunger coming early this year

From left, Lisa Harnarine, principal, Ursuline College; Ciara Taylor, Grade 12 student; Maria Angus, Grade 12 student; Kinfe Atoybi, Grade 11 student; and Coral Hoekstra, Chatham Outreach for Hunger, celebrate some of the food collected last year in the Lancers Scare Hunger Food Drive. The event returns Oct. 29 this year.

Students at UCC are taking to the streets a little earlier this year to try to scare away hunger.

The 19th annual Lancers Scare Hunger Food Drive will take place Oct. 29 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. where UCC students go door-to-door throughout Chatham to collect non-perishable items to donate to local food banks.

Just leave your porch light on and have your donated goods sitting on your porch. The students will come by to collect.

Organizers said they opted to move the event up from Halloween to allow the students more time to enjoy the spooky evening of Oct. 31.
