Why are you running?
Reducing services, to temporarily stop property tax increases will only work for the short term. We need to make C-K an attractive place to open a business, or settle down.
Several of the people running for council and mayor have a history of voting against their own constituents. One is running for mayor and voted against every single homeowner, and business owner. One is running for re-election in Ward 8. Finally, the last one was a former MPP who, while an MPP, voted against everyone in C-K to tow a party line.
What are the two biggest issues for the next term of council?
The first is working together, get over an amalgamation that happened almost 30 years ago, and have a shared vision for the growth of C-K.
Secondly, we need to increase revenue so that we can offset or limit property tax increases going forward.
What do you hope to achieve if elected?
To help C-K become a more progressive place. C-K has a history of reaction, which has led to a stagnation in the population. With our proximity to multiple international bridges, water on two sides of us, there is absolutely no reason that C-K shouldn’t be able to generate opportunities for growth. This growth would lower the need for property tax increase.
What skills and experience do you bring?
I understand the roll elected officials are supposed to have, and what they are supposed to do for their constituents.
My family and I have run a local business for 22 years, I’ve got to know the people in C-K, we try to be helpful, and we’re also thankful for their continued support. We go the extra mile whenever humanly possible. We know that without our customers, we wouldn’t have been this successful; it’s not something we forget, which is why we show up, and I would transfer the exact same energy and attention to being a councillor to help the people of C-K, because that is what a councillor should do.
