They came to Walpole Island. They allegedly sold residents fentanyl. And now they’re under arrest, and nearly $1.3 million in illicit drugs have been seized.
That’s the word from Lambton OPP on three London residents.
The investigation began in April, after receiving information on suspected drug trafficking on Walpole Island.
In mid-July, police raided two homes in London, where officers seized “significant quantities of suspected fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine, along with multiple firearms, stolen vehicles, Canadian currency and other evidence associated with drug trafficking. The estimated value of the seizure exceeds $1.28 million,” police say.
The London men, aged 27, 28 and 28, face multiple drug trafficking and firearms charges.
The co-ordinated police operation involved members from no less than seven OPP detachments.
Leela Thomas, chief of Walpole Island First Nation, said the effort was appreciated.
“The safety and well-being of our community remains a priority for Walpole Island First Nation. We appreciate the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in addressing illegal drug trafficking and related criminal activity that has a devastating impact on families and communities,” she said in a press release. “This investigation demonstrates the importance of partnerships in protecting residents and holding those responsible accountable. Walpole Island First Nation Council remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote safer, healthier communities for future generations.”
