As of June 13, a total of 51 Chatham-Kent residents have put their names on the ballot for the Oct. 26 municipal election.
North East Kent’s Ward 3 saw Mark Huston and James Plunkett join the contest over the past week, bringing the number of candidates in the ward to five. Also vying for the single seat in that ward are Cory Couture, Emery Huszka and Matthew Pietens.
Another new face has joined the race in the runup for two councillor seats in Wallaceburg’s Ward 5. Steve Burritt recently threw his hat in the ring going up against Brendan Authier, Loree Bailey, Chris Young, Jay Debuck, Zac Nicholson and Dave Hyatt.
The contest for the mayor’s chair remains the same with five candidates, including West Kent Coun. Lauren Anderson; Chatham Coun. Michael Bondy, Wallaceburg area farmer Nelson Burm, incumbent mayor Darrin Canniff, and Ryan Gow.
Those running for a councillor’s seat in Chatham are as follows:
Ward 6 (five candidates, two seats): Ben Labadie, Brian Machado, Sheila Moir-Martin, Karen Montgomery and incumbent Alysson Storey.
Ward 7 (nine candidates, two seats): Steve Adkins; Michael Fife; incumbent Amy Finn; Dustin Gawne, Larry Hutchins, Steve Kenney, Marc King, Jason Reynolds and Doug Robbins.
Ward 8 (eight candidates, two seats): Sandra Dorner, Ryan Drouillard, John Duquette, Andy Fisher, Rick Nicholls, Stephani Shill, Scott Thompson and Luke Van Der Vliet.
West Kent’s Ward 1 (four candidates, two seats): Mark Authier, Michael Bond, Andrea Palmer and Gerhard Taves.
South East Kent’s Ward 2 (five candidates, two seats): Chad Carnie; Matthew Giffin, Matt Lamarche, Brad Snobelen and Hassan Tariq.
North West Kent’s Ward 4 (three candidates, one seat): John Cummings, Kirk Hooker and incumbent Rhonda Jubenville.
