An additional $3.2 million has been allocated by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent to preserve the integrity of the Sydenham River’s banks.
Part of ongoing Sydenham River slope stabilization efforts, the work will take place on two sites along Glasgow Line.
In 2019, Chatham-Kent was awarded $16 million by the federal government’s Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund to be dispersed over a 10-year period to cover a wide range of projects to mitigate flooding and erosion along the Sydenham and Thames Rivers. The grant program is a cost-sharing offering, with local governments needing to contribute to 60 per cent of the costs of a project.
Construction is slated to begin this summer with a targeted completion date of late fall.
