Tuesday Chatham-Kent police briefs

Wrong side of the road

A Walpole Island woman faces impaired driving charges after she reportedly drove down the wrong side of McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg Monday afternoon.

Police say officers pulled her over after hearing she had done so in an unsafe manner before pulling into a parking lot.

A 35-year-old Walpole Island woman is charged with impaired driving, and driving with an open container of liquor.

Defacing a sign … at police HQ

Here’s a strange one. Chatham-Kent police have charged a man with mischief after someone defaced signage inside a downtown building Monday.

That building? Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters on Third Street.

Police say someone walked in, defaced the sign, and walked out.

Officers found their suspect on Grand Avenue West a short time later.

A 52-year-old Chatham-Kent man is charged with mischief, as well as failing to comply with a probation order. It turns out the man was prohibited from stopping in at the cop shop unless it was due to an emergency…or during an arrest.

Failed to get in, but succeeded in getting charged

Two men are up on charges after someone tried to get into a King Street West building in Chatham early Monday morning.

Police say they were alerted to the issue about 12:30 a.m. It appears someone tried to pry open multiple doors before being interrupted by a complainant. They fled after that.

Officers reviewed surveillance footage, identified the suspect and found them on King Street West a short while later.

A 37-year-old Howard Twp. man and a 28-year-old Chatham-Kent man are charged with possession of break-in instruments and, for the latter man, mischief.
