A clever kindergarten class at Chatham’s King George VI Public School has submitted the winner in the recent Name Our Salt Spreader contest.
“Ice, Ice, Salty” was chosen from among 83 imaginative entries from students led by Brittney Brown and Matt Haley to christen the Chatham-Kent machine in the Lambton Kent District School Board’s southern portion of its district.
A Grade 6 class from Sarnia submitted the winner for the northern section of the board. The name chosen for that area was Mr. Melt.
According to a school board press release, 99,160 votes were cast by students, families, staff and community members over a six-day period. Both winning classes will be treated to a pizza party and the names will be emblazoned on the appropriate trucks this winter.
LKDSB education director Gary Girardi thanked the community for supporting the contest.
“This contest was a fun way to bring our communities together, and it was wonderful to see such high levels of engagement,” Girardi said. “Beyond the excitement, this initiative highlights an important investment that strengthens our ongoing commitment to providing safe, accessible learning environments for students, staff and visitors across the district.”
