Crystalline piles

The winds and the waves on Lake Erie produced these 20-foot-high frozen hills of ice on the lake near Rondeau Park.

They sit on top of shelf ice.

As of the end of January, U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration officials said 94 per cent of Lake Erie was covered by ice, more coverage than at any point in the last 23 years.
