
Rail rider arrested
A London man who police say hopped aboard a VIA train Wednesday morning is facing charges.
He was not in the passenger cars. Police found the man on the rear engine.
The RCMP contacted Chatham-Kent police early Wednesday morning, asking them to greet the train, which arrived shortly before 6 a.m. at the VIA station in Queen Street, as there was an unauthorized person aboard.
Police say they found a man on the rear engine of the eastbound train.
A 46-year-old London man is charged with break an enter with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Bad plates, booze breath
A Chatham man faces charges after police pulled over a vehicle on Merritt Avenue Wednesday evening.
An officer spotted a vehicle headed west on Richmond Street about 8:10 p.m. Wednesday with a partially lit rear license plate.
The officer pulled the vehicle over.
It turns out, police say the driver’s documentation was expired, and the officer believed the man to be impaired. A breath test at headquarters confirmed that belief, police say.
A 49-year-old Chatha man faces impaired driving charges, as well as improper lighting for his license plate and failing to surrender his insurance card.
