Copper theft on King Street

A man faces charges after a Chatham business owner called police while someone was in the process of trying to steal copper flashing from the building’s roof.

Police got the call shortly before 5 a.m. on Sunday morning from the property owner.

Officers located the suspect and made an arrest.

A 43-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with mischief, theft and trespass by night.

Store windows smashed, man arrested

A downtown retail store in Chatham had its windows smashed on the weekend.

Police say they were called Sunday morning for a report of the damage at a King Street West store.

Three front windows of the store were shattered, police say, and the glass main door was damaged as well.

Officers reviewed surveillance footage and identified their suspect.

A 33-year-old Chatham man is charged with mischief, as well as breaching his conditions of probation.

Punch a cop car, get charged

A Chatham man will get his day in court after someone punched a police cruiser on the weekend.

Police were called shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday morning for a report of an unwanted person at a property on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.

Officers found their subject, police say, and as they investigated, he punched the police vehicle.

A 32-year-old Chatham man is charged with mischief, as police say the punch left scratches on the vehicle.

Rock tossed through window, woman charged

Someone chucked a rock through the window of a Chatham home over the weekend.

Police say the toss took place shortly after 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening.

Officers investigated, formed grounds for an arrest, and went to find their suspect.

They later located her and gave her a ride downtown and a set of steel bracelets.

A 36-year-old Chatham woman is charged with mischief.
