A donated hand grenade?
That’s what led to the temporary evacuation and closure of Value Village in Chatham on Thursday.
Police say a Second World War hand grenade came in as part of a donation.
Officers cordoned off the area and the military was called.
Police say Canadian Armed Forces personnel took the grenade and “disposed of it according to military protocols.”
Residences are reminded to exercise caution when donating or discarding old memorabilia or items that may appear to be weapons, ammunition, or explosive devices, whether inherited, found in storage or acquired.
