Wondering about the severity of a number of accidents on area roads recently? So are we.
In a sign that timely reporting of information is apparently not a priority for the Chatham-Kent Police service, police issued announcements relating to four serious collisions – one of which occurred eight days ago.
In that instance, one person ultimately died of their injuries.
And in another early Sunday morning, someone else perished.
The first crash involved a cyclist and a tractor trailer and took place about 11:15 a.m. Sept. 15 on St. Clair Street in Chatham.
Police say the cyclist, a 38-year-old Chatham-Kent man, had to be transferred to a Windsor hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died four days later due to those injuries.
The driver of the truck, a 40-year-old London woman, was not hurt.
This incident remains under investigation. Police ask that anyone with “further information regarding the circumstances surrounding this collision” contact Const. Brandon McKeen at [email protected] or contact the Traffic Management Office at 519-355-1092.
A Sunday morning crash ultimately claimed another life.
This crash took place on Creek Road near Maynard Line at the southeaster edge of Chatham about 1:30 a.m. Police say a vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a home.
The driver, a 23-year-old Merlin-area woman, was taken to London hospital with life-threatening injuries. However she ultimately succumbed to those injuries.
A 24-year-old man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
This incident is also still under investigation. If you happened to have been near that intersection at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, or somehow know more about what happened, police ask that you contact Const. Joel Rehill at [email protected] or contact the Traffic Management Office at 519-355-1092.
Another serious accident took place Sept. 19. This one was at the intersection of St. George Street and Lindsey Road in Dresden and involved an SUV and a dirt bike about 6:30 p.m.
In this instance, a 15-year-old from Dover township was taken to hospital in London with life-threatening injuries. No word on the gender of the teen.
The driver of the SUV, a Wallaceburg man, 58, was not hurt.
This incident also remains under investigation. If you can help, police ask that you contact Rehill at [email protected] or contact the Traffic Management Office at 519-355-1092.
The same day the SUV and dirt bike collided, there was another dirt bike accident that sent someone else to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
This took place about 8:15 p.m. in the parking lot of Enbridge Gas on Keil Drive in Chatham. Police say a 32-year-old Chatham man was riding there when he lost control of the bike and was thrown.
His injuries, which were deemed life-threatening, wound up resulting in him being transferred to hospital in Windsor.
Anyone who can provide more info to the police is asked to contact Rehill.
