Domestic assaults

Two men face charges for what police are saying are separate cases of intimate partner violence.

On Tuesday morning, police were called to a Chatham residence over reports of a domestic disturbance.

Officers arrived to see two people involved in an altercation. Police say the officers learned that a man was seen choking a woman and forcing her to the ground. The victim was visibly injured, but declined medical attention.

A 53-year-old Chatham man is charged with assault causing bodily harm.

Less than two hours later, police had another man in custody for allegedly assaulting another woman.

This instance took place in Tilbury. Officers investigated and learned an altercation escalated inside a residence, where a man physically assaulted a 45-year-old female from Tilbury. The accused struck the victim multiple times, restricting her breathing, police say.

Further investigation also revealed that the victim was also assaulted in a prior incident involving the accused last month. The victim sustained injuries and required medical attention as a result.

A 39-year-old Chatham-Kent man is charged with three counts of assault causing bodily harm, five counts of assault, and one of uttering threats to cause death.
