Who let the dogs out? The police did

Chatham-Kent police used dogged determination – and technology – to track down two alleged thieves early Tuesday morning.

A complainant called police shortly after 4 a.m. to report he spotted someone rifling through his truck outside his Stewart Line home.

Police say the man also saw another vehicle, which officers would later learn was reported stolen, parked nearby.

The victim tried to stop the theft of his vehicle, but police say he was assaulted and hit with bear spray.

The suspects fled on foot into a nearby corn field.

Officers called in the K9 unit and a drone operator. Police were able to track and locate two suspect shortly thereafter.

The first, a 37-year-old Chatham man, was found hiding in the field. He’s charged with theft, two counts of possession of stolen property, and one each of assault with a weapon, robbery with violence, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and administering a noxious substance.

The second suspect, a 30-year-old Wallaceburg woman, was arrested on First Street in Wallaceburg. She faces a charge of theft and three of possession of stolen property.
