Art on the Blvd. back Aug. 2

The 14th annual Art on the Boulevard has it all, beginning with its location; Erieau.

The day-long event, taking place Aug. 2, features more than 100 artists and artisans setting up shop along Erieau’s grassy boulevard.

Judy Campbell, a member of the organizing committee, said the location helps bring it all together.

“It’s Erieau. It’s unique. It’s such a beautiful area,” she said, adding there are food options, places to stay for those wishing overnight accommodations, walking trails and “a lot of things people can do. Plus, the beach.”

With 108 vendors this year, Campbell said this will set a new record for the event.

“Forty-five of them are new artists,” she said. “It keeps changing with new artists and people wanting to come.”

The turnover helps keep the event fresh.

Art on display and for sale will include paintings – in water colour, acrylic and oil – photographs, beach glass art, personal care products, quilts, glassware, baskets, and more.

Campbell said this year there will be an artist who creates Indigenous crafts as well.

On top of the art will be demonstrations. Five artists will showcase the creation of their works. Those will include cane carving, reclaiming whiskey barrels, basket weaving, stained glass work, and weaving from wheat.

Erieau is full of life for Art on the Boulevard. Campbell estimates between 4,000 and 5,000 attend each year.

“A lot of people park at the end of town and walk down,” she said. “It’s crowded and the restaurants are packed.”

There will be live music over the course of the day as well. Campbell said local artists the DAM Band will be playing in the gazebo on the boulevard.

Art on the Boulevard takes place in Erieau on Aug. 2, running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge and the event runs rain or shine.
