Skilled trades programs at Ursuline College Chatham will be showcased next week when Ontario Minister of Education Jill Dunlop pays a visit to Chatham.

According to a media release, Dunlop will get an in-depth look at classrooms specializing in construction technology, manufacturing, hairdressing and aesthetics currently equipping students with practical skills that foster awareness of societal and environmental responsibilities in preparation for a variety of career paths.

In a media statement, Dunlop said the government is dedicated to expanding access to skilled trades pathways to ensure every student has the potential to thrive.

“Skilled trades education is a key pillar in Ontario’s efforts to build a strong and resilient workforce,” Dunlop said. “I look forward to seeing firsthand how these programs are providing students with the hands-on experience and technical skills they need to shape their futures, while contributing to our province’s economy.”

St. Clair Catholic District School Board education director Scott Johnson, said the board is excited to host Minister Dunlop at UCC to highlight the “exceptional work” in the school’s skilled trades program.
