Assault with a lighter

A woman faces charges after someone was burned with a lighter Friday on Grand Avenue East in Chatham.

Police say the incident took place near the intersection of James Street.

On September 27, 2024, police responded to a disturbance on Grand Avenue East, near James Street, in Chatham.

Officers learned a woman began arguing with several people. The altercation escalated when she assaulted a man, police say. At that time, a bystander attempted to intervene. As result, the woman used a lighter to burn the bystander, police say.

On Monday morning, the woman was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and two counts of assault.

Bear mace use leads to charges

A Dresden man faces charges after someone got sprayed by bear mace on the weekend.

Police were called Saturday afternoon to Wallace Street in Wallaceburg for an assault investigation.

Police learned the victim had been sprayed with bear mace by a man. The man fled the scene but was identified. When he was not located, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Monday afternoon, police say the man attended the Wallaceburg station to retrieve property from a previous encounter with the police and was arrested.

A 28-year-old Dresden man is charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, administering a noxious thing, and two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to an order.

Pepper spray suspect arrested

A mid-September altercation in Chatham that involved the use of pepper spray has led to an arrest.

Police say on the evening of Sept. 19, officers responded to a parking lot outside a business on McNaughton Avenue West in Chatham for an assault investigation.

They learned the victim attempted to speak with a man regarding his parking. The driver responded by spraying the victim with pepper spray and fleeing the area, police say.

With the assistance of video surveillance, the man was identified, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Early Tuesday morning, the Ontario Provincial Police advised they had the man in custody.

A 24-year-old Windsor man is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and assault with a weapon.
