Couple cuffed while pushing stolen motorcycle

A man and a woman face charges after being spotted pushing a motorcycle Wednesday afternoon on Lacroix Street in Chatham.

The motorcycle matched the description of one reported stolen on May 21 from Tweedsmuir Avenue in Chatham.

It turns out, it was the stolen bike.

Officers located the man and woman on Siskind Avenue.

A 39-year-old Chatham Township woman and a 43-year-old Chatham man were transported to police headquarters, where they were released with conditions and a future court date. They are both charged with possession of stolen property.

Knife, booze a bad combo

A Chatham man faces charges after allegedly threatening a neighbour while holding a knife Wednesday afternoon.

At 1:47 p.m., while responding to an unrelated call on Orchard Heights in Chatham, an officer was approached by a woman advising she had been threatened by her neighbour.

The officer learned the man had argued with the woman, while holding a knife and making threatening comments, police say. The man was intoxicated and confrontational.

A 45-year-old Chatham man is charged with uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Burnout leads to impaired charge

Police observed a vehicle doing burnouts on Grand Avenue East in Chatham on Wednesday afternoon and then leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

The officer pulled over the vehicle on St. Clair Street and believed the man to be under the influence of alcohol. The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters for tests.

A 22-year-old Chatham man is charged with having a blood alcohol level exceeding the legal limit, impaired driving, stunt driving and driving with a suspended license.

Missed court dates

At 7:47 a.m. on Wednesday, police located a man on Cross Street in Chatham. The officer confirmed the man was wanted for failing to attend court in relation to a December 2023 breach of probation investigation.

A 40-year-old Chatham man is charged with two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

About a half hour later, police located a woman on Victoria Road in Ridgetown. The officer confirmed the woman was wanted on several warrants.

A 30-year-old Ridgetown woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where she was held pending a bail hearing. She charged with theft, possession of stolen property, failing to comply with an undertaking, and failing to attend court.

Fast forward to about 9:45 a.m. Police spotted a woman on Murray Street in Chatham. The officer confirmed the woman was wanted on several warrants for failing to attend court.

A 23-year-old Blenheim woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where she was held pending a bail hearing. She charged with obstructing a peace officer and failing to comply with an appearance notice.
