Obstructing police

A report of suspicious activity early Thursday morning led to the arrest of a local man.

Police were called to Taylor Trail in Chatham about 1 a.m. Officers arrived and found a man. Police say the man provided a fake name to the officers.

Once the identity was positively confirmed, officers learned the man was wanted on several warrants.

A 44-year-old Chatham-Kent man was transported to police headquarters where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: failing to attend court, obstruct a peace officer, two counts of trespassing at night and two counts of possession of a firearm/ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.

Another disturbance, another arrest

Shortly after 3:30 a.m. Thursday morning, police were called to the Via Rail station on Queen Street in Chatham.

Officers arrived and located the woman, who they say was wanted on an outstanding warrant related to a Feb. 24 investigation in Charring Cross.

A 44-year-old Chatham woman was arrested. She was charged with being unlawful in a dwelling.

Fraud charges

A Blenheim man turned himself in on Wednesday to face fraud charges.

Chatham-Kent police began investigating in early February after receiving a complaint a stolen cheque had been deposited into an account at a bank in Blenheim.

The officer identified the man as the account holder and formed grounds to charge him. When he was not located, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Late Tuesday morning, a 32-year-old Blenheim man turned himself in. He is charged with fraud and possession of stolen property.

Missed court date

A woman turned herself in at police headquarters Wednesday afternoon to answer for missing a court date.

Back in November, the woman was arrested and released with conditions and a scheduled court date. When the woman failed to make the court appearance, a bench warrant was issued for her arrest.

The 20-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and released with a new court date. She is charged with break and enter, assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.

Bail violations

A traffic stop in Wallaceburg Wednesday led to a man’s arrest.

Police pulled a vehicle over on Murray Street shortly after 5:15 p.m.

The officer learned the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant because of a March 28 bail violation investigation where the man was found violating a curfew condition, police say.

A 25-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: possession of stolen property and failing to comply with a release order.
