Collisions dominate police activity Wednesday

Chatham-Kent police responded to a number of accidents in and around Chatham-Kent on Wednesday.

The first took place shortly before 11:30 a.m on Creek Road just south of Chatham.

Officers learned a vehicle travelling northbound failed to navigate around the bend and collided headfirst with a southbound vehicle.  

Minor physical injuries were reported, and both vehicles were towed from the area. 

The driver of the northbound vehicle was charged with careless driving. 

Little more than an hour later, there was another mishap, this time on Kenesserie Road in Howard Township.

Officers learned the driver lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway, striking a hydro pole.

The driver sustained no physical injury, and the hydro pole was not damaged.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m. another crash occurred, this time in Chatham.

It took place on St. Clair Street at Emma Street.

Officers learned that, as a vehicle was turning south on St. Clair Street from Emma Street, it struck another vehicle travelling south. The driver did not stop after contact. A passenger’s video helped officers identify the vehicle and the driver. Officers also matched the damage to both vehicles.

A  68-year-old Dresden man was charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision and making an improper turn.

That night, shortly before 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle collision on Kent Bridge Road in Rushton’s Corners. 

Officers learned the vehicle slid off the roadway after attempting to avoid a collision with a passing vehicle. The driver sustained no physical injuries, and the passing vehicle’s license plate was not captured.
