Five people face charges and police confiscated nearly $200,000 in illegal drugs in a recent drug raid across southwestern Ontario that included a spot in Wallaceburg.

The OPP led the co-ordinated raids, which took place Jan. 9 at about 9:15 a.m.

Here in Chatham-Kent, the raid took place on Murray Street in Wallaceburg. Partner raids occurred in London, Middlesex County, Tilsonburg and Woodstock.

Police say the investigation took months to reach the point of the raids.

Officers seized a large quantity of suspected fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone, and psilocybin, with an estimated approximate street value of approximately $194,000.

Police also seized a shotgun and ammunition, knives, a stun gun, laptops, cell phones, drug trafficking paraphernalia and cash.

The accused individuals – two London residents, two Woodstock residents and a Tilsonburg man – are facing a variety of drug and weapons-related charges

“This investigation is the culmination of great collaboration between the OPP Community Street Crime Units and our municipal policing partners. These arrests will have a significant impact on the illicit drug culture in southwestern Ontario and will have a very positive impact on public safety,” Det. Staff Sgt. Charles Lorway of the OPP said in a media release.

The investigation remains ongoing.
