Threats to torch business lead to charges

A Chatham man turned himself into police Tuesday after someone threatened to burn down a Wallaceburg business.

It began on Monday, when Chatham-Kent police were called to a Murray Street business in Wallaceburg.

The officer learned a man had posted comments online threatening to burn the business down, police say. Officers made contact and advised the man of the investigation.

On Tuesday morning about 11:10 a.m, a 50-year-old Chatham man attended police headquarters and turned himself in. He is charged with uttering threats.

Man allegedly assaults son

A local man faces charges after police say he assaulted his teenage son four times between June and September.

Chatham-Kent police opened their investigation at the end of November.

On Tuesday, a 41-year-old man from the former Chatham Township walked into police headquarters to turn himself in.

He faces four counts of assault.

Failing to comply

Less than two weeks after a man was released from court with conditions to stay away from a woman, police say he went to her home and tried to talk to her.

On Dec. 6, the man was charged with assault, uttering threats, and mischief. He was released with conditions and a future court date. The conditions prohibited him from communicating with the victim and attending any place she was known to live, work, or go to school.

On Tuesday afternoon, police say they received information the man had breached this condition. Through investigation, officers discovered the man attended to the victim’s address and attempted communication, police say. Officers investigated and formed grounds to arrest the man.

A 20-year-old Chatham man was located and arrested, walking on King Street East in Chatham. He was charged with failing to comply with an undertaking.

Skipped court dates

On Nov. 24, a man was required to appear in court concerning several charges.

When the man failed to make his court appearance, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Tuesday evening, the 23-year-old Wallaceburg man showed up at police headquarters to turn himself in.

He is charged with two counts of failing to attend court, three counts of obstructing a peace officer and 12 counts of failing to comply with a probation order. He was held pending a bail hearing.

On June 9, police responded to Park Lane in Chatham for an intimate partner violence investigation.

As a result of the investigation, a man was charged with assault, mischief and two counts of uttering threats. The man was held pending a bail hearing and released by the court with conditions and a future court date.

However, when the man failed to make his court appearance, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Wednesday morning, shortly after 4 a.m., police located the man on Communication Road near Blenheim.

A 41-year-old Chatham man now has a new court date.
