The draft environmental study report for Hydro One’s proposed St. Clair Transmission Line project is now open for public review.

The report, detailing the engagement process under the Class Environmental Assessment, outlines the proposed route for the line; identifies potential affects to the natural and socio-economic environments; and summarizes the measures Hydro One will use to avoid, minimize or restore any negative effects of the build.

The St. Clair Transmission Line is a proposed new double-circuit 230-kilovolt transmission that will carry an additional 450 megawatts of electricity – enough energy to power the City of London. Its aim is to increase the reliability and resiliency of the region’s power supply leading to increased economic growth in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent is sectors such agriculture and the electric vehicle industry.

As part of the Class EA, the expansion of the Lambton transformer station and Chatham switching station is proposed, along with upgrades to the Wallaceburg transformer station.

Hydro One has worked closely with five area First Nations groups, offering them a 50-50 equity partnership in the project’s line component.
