Arson charges

A Chatham teen is in custody to answer to arson charges in connection with a weekend fire on Wellington Street in Chatham.

Emergency crews were called to a residence on Wellington Street shortly before 3:30 a.m. Sept. 16.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

However, detectives investigated and determined it was arson.

On Thursday, a 16-year-old Chatham male was arrested and charged with one count of arson. The accused has been held pending a bail hearing.

Apartment anger

A Chatham man faces an assault charge in the wake of a landlord-tenant dispute.

Chatham-Kent police got the call Thursday to visit an address on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.

Police learned, a previous tenant who was recently evicted was attempting to retrieve items when a disagreement occurred, and it escalated. The accused attempted to lunge at building employees and refused to leave when asked to do so, police say.

Officers arrived, and a 38-year-old Chatham man was charged with one count of assault.

Drunk in public

A Wallaceburg man faces charges after someone was banging on the door and being belligerent Thursday evening in Wallaceburg.

Police say the incident took place about 9 p.m. on Wallace Street.

Prior to arrival, police learned an unknown male was knocking at the complaints door and was not leaving when advised he was at the wrong address. The complainant believed the male to be intoxicated based on his behaviour and in possession of a bottle of alcohol.

Police arrived in the area and located the man. Police quickly identified the male and determined he was severely intoxicated.

A 37-year-old Wallaceburg man was taken into custody and issued a notice for being intoxicated in a public place. He was transported to police headquarters and held until he was sober.
