A Chatham man has to answer to charges following a traffic stop early Saturday morning.

Chatham-Kent police say an officer made the stop about 3 a.m. after spotting a vehicle driving without its lights on.

The male driver refused to identify himself after being pulled over, police say.

While the driver was being arrested for failure to identify, the officer formed reasonable grounds that the driver was impaired by alcohol, police say. The driver was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters to provide breath samples.

The driver was identified as a 50 year old Chatham man.

While searching the man, he was found to be in possession of a prohibited knife which breached a release condition from a non-related criminal matter.

Breath tests yielded results in excess of the legal limit, police say. The man was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
