It was a rough weekend on Chatham-Kent roadways as local police report a pair of fatal accidents.

The first took place at 1 p.m. Saturday on Victoria Road at Gosnell Line near Ridgetown. One vehicle, driven by a 32-year-old Chatham woman, and with a 13-year-old passenger, was travelling on Gosnell Line. It collided with a northbound vehicle on Victoria Road.

The driver of this vehicle, a 60-year-old Chatham woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 60-year-old passenger was seriously injured and was transported to London via air ambulance where she is listed in stable condition.

The 32-year-old woman and the 13-year-old passenger both received non-life threatening injuries and were transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance where they are in fair condition.

Out of respect for the family, the name of the deceased driver will not be released at this time, police say.

The Traffic Management Unit has taken over the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Const. Josh Flikweert at joshuaf@chatham-kent.ca or 519-355-1092.

A motorcyclist lost his life later that day on Coutts Line in West Kent.

Police say the crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. when the driver of the motorcycle, a 52-year-old Sombra man, was headed south on Coutts Line near Baert Road when he lost control of his bike and hit a ditch.

The driver, the lone occupant, was killed in the crash.

Out of respect for the family, the name of the motorcycle driver will not be released at this time, police say.

The Traffic Management Unit has taken over the investigation. Anyone with information is also asked to contact Const. Flikweert at joshuaf@chatham-kent.ca or 519-355-1092.
