A building near downtown Dresden is getting an artful facelift.
The building, located at 348 St. George St. will soon sport a large mural down one side.
The mural is courtesy Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff and the building’s owners, the Grail and Mall families.
The project is made possible thanks to funding from Hydro One.
The aim of the project is to enhance the visual appeal for the community and emphasize the importance of public art as a cultural asset.
The funds used to finance the project are provided by Canniff and are part of the Hydro One Community Benefit program, funds which are designated by Hydro One for recreational and art projects.
We are thrilled to collaborate with Grail/Mall families and utilize Hydro One funds to bring this stunning mural to Dresden,” Canniff said in a media release. “Public art plays a significant role in enhancing community aesthetics, fostering cultural expression, and creating vibrant spaces for residents and visitors alike to enjoy.”
Mike Grail, co-owner of the building, is happy to be part of the project.
“As a proud member of this community, I am delighted to partner with the mayor’s office to bring this mural to life. Public art has the power to ignite creativity, inspire conversations, and unite communities,” he said.
Where is the beautiful mural that was dedicated and graced the wall on main street? It gathered a lot of attention when it was up. Myself and lots of other people would like to see it put up somewhere! It must be hidden away somewhere or destroyed. I have my ideas but shall keep them to myself! Im sure this one will be very nice but why out with the other one and anew one? Ruth Dudley
