Editor’s note: The following is a listing of occurrences from the Chatham-Kent OPP over the past week.
No helmet? Big problems
On May 8, at approximately 4:10 p.m., an officer stopped a motorcycle travelling on Park Avenue in Chatham because the driver was not wearing a helmet.
As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old of Chatham, was charged with two counts of driving while under suspension, failing to wear a proper helmet and driving a motor vehicle with no plates.
Just a reminder that the OPP office in Chatham is located on Park Avenue.
G1 is still G1
On May 8 at approximately 8:22 p.m., an officer stopped a passenger vehicle travelling on the westbound Highway 401 after it was found speeding.
As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 34-year-old of Windsor, was charged with:
- Speeding
- Drive motor vehicle – not equipped with ignition interlock device
- Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver
- Class G1 licence holder – drive on prohibited highway
- Use plate not authorized for vehicle
- Drive motor vehicle in contravention of conditions
- Fail to surrender insurance card
- Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
Another G1 issue
On May 10 at approximately 7:26 p.m., an officer stopped a passenger vehicle travelling on the westbound Highway 401 after it was found speeding.
As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 35-year-old of Belle River, was charged with:
- Drive while under suspension
- Speeding
- Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver
- Class G1 licence holder – drive on prohibited highway
- Fail to surrender insurance card
- Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
Big Brother is watching
On May 12 at approximately 9:28 a.m., an officer stopped a passenger vehicle travelling on the eastbound Highway 401 following a notification from the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) System to verify the licence status of the driver.
As a result, the driver, a 21-year-old of Thamesville, was charged with driving while under suspension.
