Assaulting police 

A Ridgetown man faces charges after someone struck a Chatham-Kent police officer while armed with a wrench and a pry bar early this morning

Police got the call shortly after 3:30 a.m. and responded to a disturbance on Goodal Drive in Ridgetown. Police were advised the man was in the garage, causing a disturbance.

Officers arrived and located the man in the garage. The man was aggressive with the police and yelled comments to harm the officers while holding a large wrench in one hand and a pry bar in the other. 

The man did not comply with demands and ran towards the officers while swinging the items, striking one officer, police say. 

The man continued to be assaultive and threatening to police as additional units arrived. The man was eventually taken into custody after police had to use Tasers on him, police say.

A 55-year-old Ridgetown man was arrested and charged with weapons dangerous, resisting arrest, two counts of uttering threats and three counts of assaulting a police officer with a weapon. 

He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing. 

Breach of probation 

Police responded to a report of a suspicious person on Wellington Street West in Chatham Wednesday evening.

The man was located on Center Street. It was learned the man was wanted in a theft investigation and a breach of probation investigation. 

A 53-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and charged with theft, possession of the stolen property and breaching a probation order. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.  

Warrant arrests 

At 3:33 p.m. Wednesday, police were advised a woman wanted on an outstanding warrant could be found at an Erie Street South address in Wheatley. 

The woman was located and arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court. The woman was also wanted on an outstanding warrant held by the Ontario Provincial Police. 

A 38-year-old Wheatley woman was arrested and released with a new court. She was released to the Ontario Provincial Police.

At 4:29 p.m., the Sarnia Police Service contacted the Chatham-Kent Police Service for assistance locating and arresting the man. The man was wanted in a criminal harassment investigation. 

At 5:04 p.m., the man was located and arrested on Pinehurst Line in Harwich Township.

A 34-year-old Sarnia man was released to the Sarnia Police Service.
