Stunt driving galore; trailer detaches from big rig

The OPP has taken to compartmentalizing its list of occurrences in Chatham-Kent to one weekly e-mail to various news outlets, including The Chatham Voice. As a result, the following is a list of various charges handed out in recent days.

On Jan. 10 at about 10 a.m., police stopped a vehicle doing 81 km/h over the speed limit on Highway 401.

A 22 year old from Windsor is charged with:

  • Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – Excessive speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates

That night, at 11:20 p.m., officers conducting a RIDE check at the Victoria Road offramp of the westbound 401, caught someone with open liquor.

A 39-year-old of Kent Bridge was charged with driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor.

On Jan. 13 at approximately 8:50 a.m., officers attended a single vehicle motor vehicle collision on the 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

A commercial trailer separated from the transport truck pulling it. The trailer left the roadway and entered the ditch. No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries were reported.

A member from the Ministry of Transportation attended the scene and took over the investigation.

One lane of the highway was closed temporarily to allow for safe removal of the trailer from the ditch.  

On Jan. 13, at approximately 11:09 a.m., an officer stopped a passenger vehicle travelling on the eastbound 401 after it was found doing 163 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone.

Prior to initiating the traffic stop the passenger vehicle was observed to abruptly change lanes, lose control, and collide with a guard rail.

The driver was not injured.

As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old of Owen Sound was charged with:

  • Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed
  • Careless Driving

On Jan. 15 at approximately 2:40 a.m., an officer stopped a passenger vehicle travelling on the 401 after it was found speeding 163 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 28-year-old of Leamington was charged with drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed.

On Jan. 15, at approximately 2:43 p.m., an officer stopped a passenger vehicle travelling on the 401 after it was found speeding 160 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 31-year-old of London, was charged with drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed.
