The Traffic Unit of the Chatham-Kent police are still looking into what caused a fatal crash Tuesday morning on Queen’s Line just east of Tilbury.
The crash took place shortly before 7:30 a.m. and involved a cement truck and an SUV, police say.
It occurred near the Highway 401 on ramp.
The cement truck was westbound approaching the ramp when the vehicle veered into the eastbound traffic lane. The truck struck the SUV travelling eastbound, continued southbound through a ditch, and rested in a cornfield. The SUV spun into the south-side ditch.
The 31-year-old male driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
The 55-year-old female driver of the SUV was extricated and airlifted to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
The names of those involved will not be released at this time, police say.
