Assault, threats, arrest
A copper wire kerfuffle led to the arrest of a Walpole Island man Monday evening.
Chatham-Kent police say an alert business owner called them when a man tried to sell a quantity of copper wire to him.
Police responded shortly before 8 p.m. to a disturbance on Lisgar Street in Wallaceburg.
Through investigation, police learned a man was observed dragging suspected stolen copper wire down the sidewalk.
Police say the man attempted to sell the wire to a business owner, who called the police.
A struggle over the wire ensued, and the man threatened the business owner, police say.
When the business owner blocked the man’s path, the man grabbed the business owner and punched him twice, police say. Officers arrived while the struggle was occurring.
A 33-year-old Walpole Island man was arrested and charged with uttering threats and assault.
Warrant arrest
Shortly before 6:30 p.m. Monday night, police located a man on King Street West in Chatham who was wanted on a Surety Relief Warrant.
A 32-year-old Chatham man was arrested and transported to the South West Regional Detention Centre in Windsor.
Impaired charge
Shortly after 8 p.m. Monday, police responded to a driving complaint on Queen Street in Chatham. A description of the vehicle and its direction of travel were provided to the police.
Police arrived in the area, located the vehicle, and conducted a traffic stop. Police believed the man was driving his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and administered a field sobriety test. The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters for further tests.
A 59-yaer-old Chatham man is charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.
