Violations, a year after release

Shortly after midnight today, Chatham-Kent police pulled over a vehicle and learned the driver had been released by the court on exactly one year earlier with conditions and a future court date.

The conditions included a curfew. Curfews generally start earlier than midnight.

As officers attempted to arrest the man, police say he refused to exit his vehicle. Police eventually were able to remove him and place him under arrest.

Through investigation, police located a spring-loaded knife on his person and suspected cocaine in his vehicle.

A 32-year-old Chatham Township man was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order, resisting a peace officer and possession of a prohibited weapon. He was transported to headquarters and held for bail.

Bail violations

Last November, a man was released by the court on several conditions including, but not limited to, not to communicate with another man, not to attend this man’s residence on Base Line or be within 100 metres of him.

However, on Wednesday, shortly before 11:30 p.m., Chatham-Kent police responded to this address on Base Line and found the man asleep on the sofa.

A 30-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with four counts of failing to comply with release order and one count of being in possession of stolen property. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
